Lincoln Park/Milwaukee River Channels Phase 2 Project update

Sediment Clean up update:

  • The contractors are in the process of setting up construction trailers, mobilizing equipment and preparing the staging areas. Staging areas will be surrounded by fencing and will include a dewatering pad and wastewater treatment facility.
  • We have started constructing cofferdams, or temporary enclosures, around sediment removal areas in the upper most section of the Milwaukee River. We will pump out the water from the removal areas, so that the sediment can be excavated “in the dry.”
  • Dredging will start in the upstream most area first. However, you may see land clearing and other preparation activities next to the other removal areas before the dredging in the upstream area is completed.
  • Reckless driving has been observed on Milwaukee River Parkway, including excessive speeding and weaving in and out of construction traffic which created safety concerns for the site workers and the public. The county has given permission to close down the parkway in order to keep everyone safe.
  • We plan to complete sediment removal in early 2015, but the schedule is subject to change. As work progresses, we will keep you updated on major schedule changes.
