Local food producers who want to grow their local markets this season should plan to attend the “Selling through a Distributor” workshop on May 20 in Madison.
The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and UW-Extension encourage producers to register now for the technical assistance workshop, which growers can attend in person or free via webinar.
Attendees will get information and ideas from a local food producer, food broker and food hub. They will learn the best approaches to take when selecting and working with distributors or brokers. They will also learn how to determine the best models for their businesses. Speakers include Jane Hawley Stevens of Four Element Herbals; Dana Rogers, a natural foods broker with growing sales, and Sarah Lloyd from the Wisconsin Food Hub Co-operative.
The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on May 20 in the first-floor boardroom at DATCP, 2811 Agriculture Drive, Madison, Wisconsin 53718. The cost is $10 for the first representative from a farm or business and $5 each for additional representatives. Attending the workshop via webinar is free.
