Watch Stocking Density During Cows’ Dry Period

The transition cow is one of the animals at highest risk for falling ill or dying on the dairy farm.  Recently, more research has been conducted on ways to improve management of the transition dairy cows, more specifically to help alleviate stress for the low-ranking or subordinate dairy cow.

In the March 2015 Wisconsin Agriculturist article Watch Stocking Density During Cows’ Dry Period, UW-Extension Clark County Dairy & Livestock Agent Karen Luchterhand shares research findings on stocking density as it impacts feeding behavior, lying time, health incidences and milk yield differences.
