Hypatia – Fitchburg Fireflies 4-H (4)

“In the Fall of 2019, my younger sister and I potted up numerous plant divisions from perennials, that we intended to donate to the Occupy Madison plant sale in the spring of 2020. Unfortunately, the plant sale was not held, due to COVID-19.

In my prior year’s (2018-2019) project, I had divided and potted up many perennials and planted them on veterans’ graves and also the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) monument at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire, so when the Occupy Madison plant sale wasn’t held and we had all these plants that we needed to do something with, it made sense to plant them on veterans’ graves. We planted them on veterans graves in Dane County and Dodge County. I focused on Civil War veterans graves (my great great grandfather James Knox Dole was in the Union Army) and planted perennials on every Civil War veteran’s grave at the Lowell Cemetery in Dodge County.

I also obtained permission to plant perennials around the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) monument at the Lowell Cemetery in Dodge County. In these photos, you can also see “”before”” and “”after”” of some of the plantings that I did.

Then with our 4H troop, the Fitchburg Fireflies, we got permission to plant perennials on every veteran’s grave in the Cottage Grove cemetery, which we did. In these photos, you can see some of the pots of plants that we had, but not all of them. ”
