Starting a Community Garden

A community garden is any space that is used by a group of people to grow plants for beauty, education, therapy or food.  Douglas County has approximately 15 community gardens ranging from small to large.  These include:


 Bayside Baptist Church in Superior

Broadway Community Gardens:  sponsored by Superior Council for the Arts

Rental plots available in the spring


Catlin Greens Community Garden:  Managed by Superior Housing Authority

Plots are reserved for Superior Housing Authority Residents.  The gardeners keep everyone they grow for themselves or can share with others if they wish.

The Superior Housing Authority welcomes pre-approved volunteer groups to assist gardeners in the Catlin Green garden.

Wentworth Community Garden

Wentworth Gardens, 4474 Wentworth Rd, South Range, WI 54874

Plot sizes are 20’x20′ for $25 and 20’x30′ for $35.  No pesticide use is permitted.  Plots are in full sun, tilled area with a water source, parking and a fence.  Checks can be mailed or brought in and payable to Wentworth Gardens, 4474S Wentworth Road, South Range 54874
