B. Trading a 15 MPG SUV for a more fuel efficient 20 MPG model

Actually, you will save more gas by trading in your gas guzzler for a slightly more efficient model. If you drive 12,000 miles per year, you will save 200 gallons per year by trading the 15 MPG for a 20 MPG model. Trading in a 30 MPG sedan for a 50 MPG hybrid will save 160 gallons per year. With gasoline at $2.73 per gallon, trading in the 15 MPG will save $2,730 in gas in five years. Trading the SUV for a 25 MPG vehicle will increase the savings to $4,386.
