Dairy Moos & News April 6, 2022

Hello Dairy Project Members!
I just have a few items for you to take note of over the next few months leading up to the fair!

Showmanship Requirement:  First of all, this is your friendly reminder that participation in a hands-on showmanship workshop or showmanship contest is required to exhibit dairy at the county fair.  Opportunities to fulfill this requirement include:

  • The Fond du Lac County Junior Holstein Association is hosting a workshop on Saturday, April 16 at 12 noon at the Kamphuis Farm located at N4884 Oak Grove Rd, Brandon.  There will be speakers talking about dairy judging, how to pick a show calf and how to properly feed and fill your show animals. The workshop should take about 2 hours.  Please RSVP to Karla Stumpf at kstumpf1@new.rr.com
  • Outagamie County is also planning a showmanship workshop with Katie Coyne in early May.  At this workshop, you bring your heifers with you, and she helps you clip them in the am, and in the pm Katie does a showmanship workshop.  It is in Seymour and is an ALL-day clinic.  Please contact Karla Stumpf for more details.
  • There are also opportunities to participate in showmanship contests at spring shows and local district shows coming up

Please fill out and submit a county fair activity card at https://fyi.extension.wisc.edu/fdldairyyouth/files/2019/03/2019-County-Dairy-Activity-Card.doc (also located at https://fyi.extension.wisc.edu/fdldairyyouth/forms/) as proof of your participation and submit to Sarah Loehr by fair check-in. Please contact Sarah at 608-792-7013 or sarahloehr24@hotmail.com with any questions.

WI State Fair Jr Dairy Show:  For any dairy kids ages 12 to 19 as of January 1 interested in exhibiting dairy at State Fair, we will be having a state fair orientation/planning meeting on Monday, April 18 at 7 pm at the Extension office. To show at state fair, kids must be 12 on January 1, 2022, and have shown dairy for at least two years at the Fond du Lac County Fair.  This meeting is required and at least one parent from each family should attend.
Dairy Committee Elections: Please also note that we will be holding elections this summer for adults and juniors for the dairy committee. Elections will take place during the fair, so any time leading up to the fair nominations will be taken.
If there are any questions or comments regarding the dairy project, please feel free to contact Sarah Loehr at sarahloehr24@hotmailcom
