Community Profile Eagle River, a small community of about 1,400, is located in northern Wisconsin not far from the Upper Michigan border. While the town may be small, the recreation opportunities are not. In the summer, Eagle River offers visitors and locals the chance to swim and fish in one of their many lakes. When the weather gets cold water sports give way to snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Eagle River is the classic northern Wisconsin experience.

Products Sold & Niche Developed

Brew Moon Coffeehouse serves a wide array of specialty drinks, including organic and Fair Trade coffees, and goes beyond to serve healthy and tasty food as well. They have, in fact, developed a niche for healthy, casual dining in this Northwoods setting. On any given day, you can walk in this cozy café to find customers enjoying a varied menu (including vegetarian selections), using the internet, reading by the fireplace, or playing a board or card game. On the hotter summer days, you can be refreshed to find that Brew Moon also makes and serves an Italian alternative to American Ice Cream, Gelato. Enjoy it on their garden patio, maintained by a local master gardener, where herbs are grown that are used in several menu items.

Market Segments Served

The customer-base of Brew Moon Coffeehouse cycles with the seasons. In the winter, the Café fills primarily with locals who travel from communities up to 30 miles away. Throughout the year and especially during warmer months, Brew Moon hosts additional customers from Chicago and Milwaukee—many of whom have been vacationing in the Northwoods for generations—as well as visitors from as far away as New Zealand and Italy,. Because of its inviting atmosphere, the Café often attracts customers representing diverse backgrounds and ages.

Contributions to the Business Community

Brew Moon Coffeehouse is very active in the local Downtown Business Association. After Hurricane Katrina, Brew Moon spearheaded a benefit for the cause in conjunction with the Association. The effort was very successful in raising money for the Hurricane aftermath, and involved many other businesses and community members in a good cause
