Community Pharmacy is a worker’s cooperative whose mission it is to promote both personal and community health through education and service. Their goal is to provide a wide range of information and products for health, including the full continuum of health care options and philosophies. Additional goals include minimizing environmental impact by offering a range of natural, organic, and locally produced goods. Products carried include a full service pharmacy offering traditional and alternative medicines, herbal, health care, body care, and nutritional supplements.

Market Segments Served

Community Pharmacy is only one of two pharmacies in Downtown Madison, and the only pharmacy near the University of Wisconsin campus. Customers include not only students, downtown residents and employees from nearby businesses, but individuals travel through throughout the city for Community Pharmacy’s selection of natural and organic products and support the cooperative philosophy. Due to parking constraints, most customers travel by foot, bike, or bus to the establishment, or combine their visit with other downtown destinations.

Contributions to the Business Community

Community Pharmacy has been a resource for health information in the Madison community for over 30 years, and offers classes on all aspects of health for little or no cost. This worker’s cooperative has over twenty full-time employees and four pharmacists, decisions are made collectively through consensus and democratic voting. Serving as the only pharmacy between the State Capital and University of Wisconsin Campus, it provides critical services for students and area residents
