Keeping Kids Safe on the Road

Summer means family road trips! Everyone travels somewhere over the summer, even if it is just around town. Whether you are driving 3 miles or 300, you should always be sure to keep kids safe on the road.

Regulations on proper car seats and booster seats can be confusing for many parents. The good news is that there are resources in our community to help you understand the best way for your child to travel. There are even programs that will ensure that your child safety seat is properly installed.

Lincoln County residents can access car seat installation checks and help obtaining appropriate car seats through the Car Seat Safety Program at the Lincoln County Health Department. To qualify for this program, families must currently qualify for one of the following programs: WIC, Medicaid/BadgerCare, FoodShare, Wisconsin Works (W-2) Cash Assistance, Wisconsin Shares, free or reduced cost school meals, or Prenatal Care Coordination. All requests for car seats must be made through a referring agency. Call (715) 539-1373 for more information.

Residents of Merrill can also contact the Merrill Police Department for an appointment for a car safety seat inspection. Call (715) 536-8311 for more information.
