UW-Extension Family Living Programs specialist Mary Huser is the recipient of the 2016 Award for Excellence from the University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin-Extension.
UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor Cathy Sandeen presented the award at the institutions’ Chancellor’s Awards Event and Reception, Sept. 22, in Madison. The annual Chancellor’s Awards recognize UW Colleges and UW-Extension partners, supporters and employees for their outstanding contributions to the quality of life in Wisconsin.
The Award for Excellence recognizes the outstanding performance of an individual or team/group in any of several areas, including outstanding contributions to the UW Colleges/UW-Extension mission or strategic priorities, sustained excellence in providing support, the development of innovative programs, outstanding teaching, successful programming, or exceptional efforts to build public support for the UW Colleges or UW-Extension.
Huser conducts research and outreach to improve the lives of families around Wisconsin. Her work focuses on the family’s role in preventing childhood adversity, including programs for incarcerated parents. She has played an integral role in using new technology to improve parenting education.
According to her colleagues: “Mary embodies the thoughtful, innovative, team-oriented problem solving and collaborative work that is at the heart and strength of Family Living Programs and UW-Extension. She participates in and encourages others to develop research-based, needs-oriented programming that has lasting positive repercussions for Wisconsin families. Additionally, she leads through example, building on her colleagues’ strengths, and maximizing local, regional and national relationships.”
Sandeen added, “UW Colleges and UW-Extension employees and partners work statewide to provide innovative education and services to students, business owners, farmers and citizens in every industry across Wisconsin. The Chancellor’s Awards recognize those individuals who’ve gone above and beyond in extending our mission to the corners of the state.”
