Pesticide Applicator Training Program (PAT Program) 2024-2025 Annual Report The University of Wisconsin - Madison, Division of Extension Pesticide Applicator Training (PAT) Program provides educational materials and training opportunities for the purpose of pesticide applicator certification within the state of Wisconsin. In Wisconsin, individuals must be certified to apply Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs) or to apply any pesticides for-hire. Certification ensures individuals understand the risks associated with pesticide use, including how to safely store, handle, apply and dispose of them, while protecting themselves, the public, and the environment. In-person training sessions allow prospective applicators to review key pesticide use and safety concepts relevant to their industry, ask questions, and take the certification exam that day. Educational materials are available in a variety of formats which include: training manuals, online training courses, and in-person, regionally hosted, and virtual training sessions. The PAT Program is responsible for regularly updating training materials to ensure prospective applicators are informed about current legal requirements and recent developments in the pesticide industry that affect human health and environmental safety.
