Let the Hotline answer your questions!

As some remote work continues, it’s a good time to remember that the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline is available to personally answer food safety questions during the weekday, all year round.  The hotline focuses on answering questions about meat, poultry, or egg products, and tries to help callers find answers to other topics as well.

The Hotline receives more than 50,000 calls yearly. The toll-free telephone service helps prevent foodborne illness by answering questions about the safe storage, handling, and preparation of meat, poultry, and egg products.

If you have a question about meat, poultry, or egg products, call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline toll free at 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854).

The Hotline is open year-round Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CentralTime (English or Spanish). Send email questions to MPHotline.fsis@usda.gov.

Ask USDA! (Ask USDA | PregunteleaKaren.gov ) is USDA’s automated response system that can provide food safety information 24/7 and a live chat in English or en Espanol during Hotline hours.

For 35 years the Meat and Poultry Hotline has answered questions about food manufacturer recalls, food poisoning, food safety during power outages, and the inspection of meat, poultry and egg products. From novice cooks roasting their first turkey to experienced food handlers asking about foodborne bacteria, the Meat and Poultry Hotline has answered nearly 3.5 million calls since its inception.
