A comparison of Youth-driven and adult-driven youth programs (2005).
In this article, Reed Larson and his colleagues discuss the experiences of youth in high quality programs. They compared youth-driven and adult-driven programs. In the youth driven programs, youth experienced a high degree of ownership and empowerment and gained leadership and planning skills. In the adult-driven programs, youth gained self-confidence and developed specific talents. The authors speak to strategies by which youth organizations can seek to balance the two approaches within their programs.
