United Way’s 2-1-1 will celebrate National 2-1-1 Day together with 2-1-1 programs across the country on Thursday, February 11. On this day we recognize the important work done by 2-1-1 to connect people with resources in their communities.
Last year 523 Lincoln County residents contacted United Way’s 2-1-1 for help with things like rent, food, utility bills, tax assistance, child care, counseling, and help for aging parents.
One of those people was “Dan”. Dan and his family of four were struggling with homelessness. The shelters were full, and they had been staying in motels for a while, but their funding was drying up fast. They needed help getting into a new place of their own before they ended up on the street in the middle of winter. Dan called United Way’s 2-1-1 for help. A 2-1-1 Information Specialist helped Dan identify programs that offered rent and security deposit assistance. When the Information Specialist followed up, Dan shared that he and his family had received rent help and were moved into their new apartment.
