Tech Tutors bring government into the digital world

Tech Tutors are volunteering their time through a program at Marathon County UW-Extension, helping their neighbors in the community learn how to navigate in this increasingly digital and electronic world. Some of those neighbors include elected officials who are new to using electronic tablets for government business. Bob Anderson, Tech Tutor volunteer, recently led a class for county supervisors as they gear up for paperless meetings. County’s elected leaders go high-tech with iPads, was highlighted in the Wausau Daily Herald.

The Tech Tutor program continues to recruit new volunteers. Potential volunteers should be comfortable in the basic word processing skills, i.e., creating, formatting and editing a document. Marathon County UW-Extension is an RSVP Volunteer Station, so that volunteers over the age of 55 may be eligible for benefits such as supplemental accident, auto liability and volunteer liability insurance; mileage reimbursement, if needed; monthly social and informational events; and recognition. These volunteers can help people create better connections with family, manage finances and medical issues, and improve their job prospects by using the internet.
