Connecting campus to communities with Extension’s Northwoods Forum

As part of UW–Madison’s 175th Anniversary, Extension held a special forum in Lac du Flambeau on May 7 to bring campus and communities closer in dialog on issues affecting Northern Wisconsin.

Fittingly for the anniversary theme, Extension brought together 175 elected officials, government administrators, non-profit leaders, and others from northern Wisconsin.

The Extension Northwoods Forum was held at the Lake of the Torches Resort Casino in Lac du Flambeau in partnership with tribal leaders who welcomed participants and organizers and supported the event.

“Our purpose was to provide a connection to campus for community leaders in the Northwoods and showcase our mission of research to practice,” said Karl Martin, Dean and Director of UW –Madison Extension. “And we succeeded in that goal – we had lively discussions from our participants and great presentations from our experts.”

Attendees participated in presentations, panel discussions, and discussion on three tracks: Local Community Infrastructure and Economy; Enhancing Natural Resources; and Quality of Life.
