Returning to the Farm workshop helps farm businesses plan for farm succession

University of Wisconsin Center for Dairy Profitability, University of Wisconsin-Extension and University of Wisconsin-River Falls are offering a workshop to help farm families plan for a son, daughter or partner to return to the farm and eventually take over the farm business. The four-day workshop will be offered at the River Falls Public Library on March 7 and 8 and April. 4 and 5, 2014.

New UW-Extension program to help farmers “shift gears” in their later farming years is offered in nine locations

In a farm business, planning for the current owners’ later years is an important aspect of a farm succession plan. Even if the owners are not planning on fully retiring from careers as many workers do, it is important to discuss their vision with family and farming partners, and plan on shifting gears, slowing down and finding other activities to enjoy. A new program is being offered in nine locations around the state to help farm families explore and plan for their later farming years.
