A series of ten webinars is planned for this winter starting December 4th. Topics include energy efficiency in irrigation, animal housing, greenhouses, grain drying, milk production and field crop production. The hour long webinars will be held on Tuesdays at 10 AM except for the first one which will be at 12 Noon. The presentations will be followed by 15 minutes of questions and discussions. If you don’t have high-speed internet connection you can contact your local cooperative extension office to see if they will be holding a local meeting. Registration is required. This week’s webinar is titled, “Managing Field Cropping to Lower Energy Costs” and will feature Extension Agricultural Engineer, Mark Hanna.
Reducing energy use in cropping operations involves good maintenance of equipment, reducing tillage operations, ballasting tractors properly, nitrogen management and reducing grain drying energy use. Webinar will make the case for using minimum tillage, timely routine tractor maintenance, shorter maturity corn to reduce drying costs and more precise management of nitrogen application.
