Gathering by the Waters …to kick off summer festival season in Milwaukee

Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee, in partnership with the Friends of Lakeshore State Park and Discovery World, present the GATHERING BY THE WATERS FESTIVAL on Saturday, May 24 at Lakeshore State Park.

The event will kick off the summer sailing season of Wisconsin’s flagship, the S/V Denis Sullivan, and honor the life of environmental activist and folk singer Pete Seeger.

The daylong festival runs from 10 am to 5 pm with musical performances by over a dozen local bands. The event will culminate in a Pete Seeger-style hootenanny, so all are invited to bring their instruments and voices to join in the celebration.

Gathering by the Waters Festival will give festival goers an opportunity to watch as the S/V Denis Sullivan makes her entrance into the harbor, listen to live musicians perform in honor of Pete Seeger, enjoy fare from local food trucks, participate in themed Discovery World lab activities, and take advantage of FREE deck tours of the S/V Denis Sullivan throughout the day.

Gathering by the Waters will also host the 50 nonprofit member organizations of Community Shares of Greater Milwaukee, a workplace-giving umbrella organization on Milwaukee’s Eastside. Visitors can find out about community advocacy efforts and volunteer opportunities in social justice, animal welfare and the environment.

Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
