Matching Feed to the Need Horse Care Workshop

The Stateline Equine Education team, which is comprised of State Equine Extension Specialist Liv Sandberg and county agriculture agents, Leigh Presley from Kenosha and Racine counties and Darrell McCauley from Winnebago county will be hosting their annual equine educational workshop on February 24, 2018 in southeast WI, at the Kenosha County Center in Bristol (not E Bristol by Sun Prairie).  This year the focus of the workshop will be Horse Nutrition and pasture and weed management.

We are very excited and fortunate to have a strong slate of industry professionals presenting at the day long workshop, sharing their expertise with participants.  The speakers include Dr. Kevin Kline, Extension Horse Specialist at the University of Illinois.  Dr. Kline speaks on various equine health topics around the country, with research work focusing on effects of feed processing and feed efficiency.  He will be leading off the workshop with a presentations on “Matching Feed to the Need” and “Feed Quality Considerations” for your horse.

There will be a number of breakout sessions taught by members of the State Line group. Darrel McCauley will be presenting “Building a Strong Foundation for your Pasture”, Peg Reedy, retired Agriculture Agent, UW-Extension Walworth County will be teaching “Pasture Weed ID and Weed Management” and Ellen Phillips, retired UW-Extension Educator will be leading “Establishing and Revamping Pastures” and helping you better understand hay analysis in “What’s in that Bale?”. Additional breakout topics include ‘Rotational Grazing’, ‘Equine Feed Supplements’, ‘Understanding Low Carb diets for Metabolic disorders’, and ‘Transitioning from Boarding to housing at Home’.

The workshop will take place February 24, 2018 from 9:30am-3pm, at the Kenosha County Center (19600 75th St Bristol, WI.)  The cost for adults is $25 per person or bring a friend $40 for two adults.  We also encourage older youth to attend @ $15 per youth.  Lunch will be provided and is included in the cost of registration.
