From 2007 to 2010, the US EPA and its supporters recognized communities that were excelling in building healthy communities for active aging. The awards were given to communities that did an outstanding job designing their infrastructure to promote healthy aging. Applicants were judged on the overall effectiveness of their programs, level of community involvement and outreach, use of innovative approaches, and overall environmental and health benefits of the project.
