Lifelong Housing: The Anchor in Aging-Friendly Communities

The Summer 2009 issue of Generations, a journal published by the American Society on Aging, included an article entitled, “Lifelong Housing: The Anchor in Aging-Friendly Communities“.  C0-authored by Jon Pynoos, Rachel Caraviello, and Caroline Cicero, the article describes the role of housing in aging-friendly communities, the problems of living in conventional housing as people age and the need to adapt existing dwellings for older people. The authors discuss ways to make homes better, “visitability” and universal design, relocation options, and resources for low income elders to help them with home modification.
