Paul and Lalay Ohlrogge Scholarship

This scholarship was initially made possible by the generous donation of CLA alums Derek and MJ Dachelet. Derek was a member of the inaugural class in 2000 and MJ was a member of the class of 2005. The original intent of the scholarship was to honor Paul Ohlrogge as one of its founding members and for leading the organization for the past twenty years.

The Ohlrogge scholarship is now being expanded to include the memory of Paul’s wife Lalay. Lalay left this earth in early May far too young and far too soon. Lalay embodied the attributes of CLA’s mission. Lalay was an elementary teacher, a lifelong learner, and servant leader. In addition to being devoted to her family, students, and community; Lalay also engaged in fellowship and service throughout Wisconsin and in her homeland, the Philippines.

The joint Ohlrogge scholarship will be given each year to help someone in Grant, Iowa, or Lafayette County be able to attend CLA. “Growing our network of engaged individuals and leaders in Southwest Wisconsin is an ideal way to honor Paul’s legacy and to pay tribute to Lalay,” said Barry Hottmann, CLA Board Member.

The CLA program is a coalition of UW-Platteville Continuing Education and the Platteville Area Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with UW-Extension Community Resource Development in Grant, Lafayette, & Iowa Counties. It’s a six-month program running from January to June. About two dozen people participate each year. The ultimate goal is to build alliances to unify communities throughout southwest Wisconsin.
