Check Out the Second Annual Healthy Soil-Healthy Water Field Day

Dodge County Farmers for Healthy Soil-Healthy Water, a sustainability-based farmer led group, will be holding its second annual field day called “Covers and Climate,” on Friday, August 3rd, 2018 at the Hammer & Kavazanjian Farms located at W7591 County Road E in Beaver Dam.

The Dodge County Farmers for Healthy Soil-Healthy Water have a mission of improving our community’s soil and water through conservation practices and education. With UW-Extension, this group of producers are conducting on-farm trials assessing the best method to plant cover crops into current crop rotations. Come listen and interact with these local farmers who will share their stories and seeding methods.

The field day program begins at 10:00a.m. and runs until 2:00p.m. In addition to local farmers, Dr. Jerry Hatfield, USDA-ARS Director for the National Lab for Agriculture and the Environment, will be speaking on the topic of extreme weather effects on agriculture. After a delicious lunch, there will be three field stations titled “Equipment for Cover Crop Establishment,” “On-Farm Cover Crop Trials-Exploring Establishment Methods and Timing,” and “Cover Crop Failures and Successes.” After the afternoon stations, you will be able to witness the equipment that make this all possible.

You will not want to miss this opportunity. Both producers and educators will share their valuable insight and knowledge about cover crops, soil health, and how to better deal with weather extremes.

The field day is free and open to everyone, but pre-registration is required for a lunch count and to reserve a lunch ticket. Please pre-register at www.dodgecountyfarmers.com by Thursday, August 2nd, 2018.
