Families from all over the state were invited to come to Upham Woods for Family Camp, May 5-6, 2018. They chose their favorite classic summer camp activities to do together like archery, nature hikes, and of course, campfire songs and skits. Families could choose to stay in cabins together or reserve a dorm room.
There were also opportunities for citizen science during Family Camp. While on a hike to our South Beach, adult and youth campers alike used DOTS (Digital Observation Technology Skills) Kits to enhance their observation skills and to collect scientific data about their surroundings. Hikers were also invited to walk on the Riverbend Trail and look for signs of wildlife (especially the resident family of foxes) using our trail camera technology.
Families stopped by the Arts & Crafts building and turned what inspired them about their natural surroundings into art. They also visited with our program animals in the Nature Center, learning about the different ways that amphibians and reptiles adapt to their surroundings. Of course, everyone enjoyed the beautiful weekend weather playing all types of outdoor games. The Fun and Movement session encouraged everyone to get moving by running relay races, dancing, or working together in team activities. Those inspired to give back participated in a service project, spreading fresh mulch on walking paths.
It was wonderful to see all of these great families united in the Upham Woods Experience!
