BioBlitz-ing at Upham Woods

The second annual BioBlitz took place at Upham Woods on Saturday, June 23. Experts and nature enthusiasts gathered over 250 observations during this one-day event!
The BioBlitz began on Friday evening with bat roost and acoustic monitoring using specialized equipment, as well as looking at what bats might be eating by setting up a lighted sheet to attract nocturnal insects. Early Saturday morning focused on bird call identification. The birders counted 18 different species of birds around the island! The group spent the majority of the day cataloging on Blackhawk Island, gathering together later on to share their most interesting discoveries.
Thanks to all our volunteers who spent this beautiful day at Upham Woods searching and cataloging the organisms that call this place their home.
