A daytime or evening program focused on white-tailed deer and their impact on their environment. The lesson takes 2 formats depending on how it fits into your schedule. Both versions take about an hour.
Daytime version: send a class of youth (up to 25 people) to this class to learn about deer adaptations and the role deer play as a keystone species. It will involve hands on activities with deer artifacts, a hike and the game Oh Deer which helps explain concepts like carrying capacities and population dynamics.
Evening Version: Bring your entire group to the lodge for a relaxed presentation to end your long day at Upham Woods! Spend an hour listening to a presentation on deer while deer artifacts are passed around.
Accessibility notes:
This class starts indoors and moves outdoors at the end. The herbivore hike typically occurs on the riverbend trail, but can be done on any trail. OH DEER! involves some running back and forth and typically occurs outdoors, but can be done in the lodge if needed.
